All of these inbetween spaces are interesting to consider. However, it may be important to do some more analytical studies which are more grounded in dimension to really understand and be able to compare and contrast what you are showing as inside/outside. You will find that the line that is operating in your next post is much more than a line - it is a threshold and connection, as you suggest, but it has thickness, it is a space with defined edges and boundaries which need to be defined and become part of your language/vocabulary that you can use in your designer's arsenal towards particular ends.
